You can integrate a wide variety of watercourse types in the garden. In principle, everything is possible. Even mountain brooks with high cascades can be built. The design spectrum extends from near-natural brooks to flumes that flow into fixed beds.
The watercourse is the centre of focus, but the collecting basin and pump are also important. They must not be too small under any conditions, the water quantity must be sufficient to supply the pipe and the entire watercourse with water. A watercourse with a length of 5 m needs a collecting basin with a holding capacity of approximately 500 litres.
For a one metre height differential, plan a pump capacity of approximately 50 litres a minute. This applies for a watercourse width of approx. 40 centimetres. For a width of 70 centimetres, approx. 120 litres a minute are necessary. It is better to over-specify the pump capacity somewhat so that the brook does not become a small stream at a later date. Rule of thumb for calculating the pump capacity: width of watercourse in cm x 1.5 l/min = capacity in l/min.
