The swan pond has a surface area of around 1 ha and is located in Landau Ostpark in the Landau urban district in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is mainly used as a park pond.
The particular challenges are that the pond is supplied by low-oxygen groundwater and that there is a relatively high influx of nutrients due to park visitors who feed the waterfowl. A layer of sludge measuring 50 cm thick has formed as a result, leaving the water only around 1 m deep. The fish began dying off in 2017.
A two-stage process was used for the swan pond. To begin with, 2 t of SchlixX Plus was introduced to reduce the sludge layer at the bottom of the pond. In the second step, Peridox was used as an acute measure, with the aim of increasing the oxygen content in the water and thereby stopping the fish from dying.
The sludge layer was reduced by about 30 cm in total, which constitutes a 55% reduction. In addition, acute fish mortality was successfully prevented.
SchlixXPlus receives the German Award for Sustainability from the German Institute for Service Quality. Under the patroness Dr. Brigitte Zypries, former Federal Minister of Economics, and B.A.U.M. e.V. chairwoman Yvonne Zwick, the jury selected OASE as one of three award winners.
